I have been blog hunting these days (Sitting at home during winter vacations, curled up in a blanket in this chilly winter, secretly wishing for every outing to be cancelled, for a slacker and an excuse monger like me this seems to be the perfect thing these days). So, when I came across this amazing book tag, I couldn’t resist doing it myself.
Here it goes:
Favourite childhood book?
Fairytales…never got a chance to read any “book” book or got encouragement to do so coz I grew up in a family of heavy-duty-reading-stuff-shirkers 😛
What are you reading right now? The Photo Book and I for Imagine…Photography books…one was gifted and the other I ordered…
Bad book habit?
Letting my reading take over everything else, even my studies.
Do you have an e-reader?
No and I am really confused, whether to buy one or not…I think I can never stop reading from the physical books themselves…but the sheer charm of owning a kindle makes me drool…
Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once?
I can never concentrate on more than one book at a time…Moreover, I have this tendency to quickly finish first things first…
Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
Not much because of the blog but due to a friend…
Least favourite book you read this year (so far)?
Custody by Manju Kapoor.
Favourite book you’ve read this year?
Beyond the Border and Amritsar to Lahore…I have sentimental values attached to them…
How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
I have recently started reading out of my comfort zone…earlier I used to hoard only fiction…
What is your reading comfort zone?
As I mentioned, FICTION!!!!!!!!!
Can you read on the bus?
No, but I read in Metro.
Favourite place to read?
What is your policy on book lending?
That I hate lending my books. I have OCD when it comes to my books. I can’t stand to not have them with me. I have lennded them time and again to some friends. Some just don’t know how to pamper a book and give it back to me in a wrinkled condition. Others sell them off to the “scrap guy”. So, these days I am not lending my dearest books to anybody or even if I do in the worst of conditions I have started keeping an inventory to constantly remind me of a-valued-treasure-lying-on-somebody’s-dining-table-traced- with- aloo-bhindi-marks on them.
Do you ever dog-ear books?
Never. I have a hundred million bookmarks for the purpose.
Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
Nope. I like my books to look like they’ve never been touched.
Not even with text books?
I am one of those people whose books look brand new even at the end of the term, and not because I don’t study.
What is your favourite language to read in?
English. I think that’s my first love…Recently started reading French Books for Kids from The French Library at Alliance, Delhi. Loved them…felt like a kid…they are full of illustrations, colors, cartoons and what not!!!!!!!!
What makes you love a book?
Characters, A good plot and the right pace.
What will inspire you to recommend a book?
If the book really impresses me, I will. I don’t have a lot of friends who read, so it’s not something that I do much.
Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
A lot of them left unread.
Have you ever read a self-help book?
Used to read Robin Sharma and the likes…but now I clearly stay away from them…
Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
Loads…Paulo Coelho’s work inspires me a lot…apart from that i particularly liked “The Music Room”, “Amritsar to Lahore” and “Beyond the Border” for the sheer reason of the protagonists chasing their dreams in spite of all the hurdles that came their way.
How often do you agree with critics about a book?
I never read reviews of a book before reading it.
How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
If a book is bad, it’s bad.
If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose? Its French, hands down!!!!!!!
Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
All the Big Fat Thick books lying there on my shelf.
I haven’t read that many, so can’t say.
Favourite fictional character(s)?
Garfield and Calvin & Hobbes.
Name a book that you could/would not finish–
Quite a few actually. Mostly when I was in college. I’d start reading a book, but would then get bored with it, and chuck it. One of the lots is “Inscrutable Americans”.
What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
Well, a lot of things.
Favourite film adaptation of a novel?
“Confessions of a Shopaholic”…I feel here the movie has visually appealed to me for all its pretty stuff and the talking manequins. 😛
Most disappointing film adaptation?
P.S. I Love You. The movie seems to be completely different from the book.
The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
Not much really. I think now I will blow up my Dad’s money on the “Calvin and Hobbes” set at flipkart.com available for Year End sale at an exorbitantly low price. Here: http://www.flipkart.com/books/0740748475?_l=PlTjn3w3KPTaTNH%20T31QKA–&_r=miCMG_Xxsj6xBHWQswVXlw–&ref=bb169857-00a0-4eef-99c4-b36dd5c73ccd
Do you like to keep your books organized?
Yes. I have a bookshelf in my room, and I keep all my books well organized. Inspite of the fact that now they are outgrowing the bookshelf.
Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
I love collecting books. I’ve never given away books, except for text books maybe.
A book you didn’t expect to like but did?
Amritsar to Lahore
Favourite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
Shopaholic Series. I completed the series this year. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Love Sophie Kinsella’s work.
Books I love or “the ones I can read again and again and again and…..”
Have just read “Five Point Someone” thrice and now planning to read “Calvin & Hobbes” again. Otherwise, I dont read a book again, so many books but so less time 😛
Books I love to hate:
Books about IITians. Same old love stories.
